 I entered this piece, called "Pond Confab" in the juried Springfield Art Guild's "Art in the Garden" show, and it was accepted. This show will be at Green Spring Gardens Park , a Fairfax County Park, from August 27th-October 27th. If you have never been to this jewel of a park, it is definitely worth a visit. I walked around after dropping off my painting and, sure enough, saw turtles in the pond! Stop by and see the show (and the turtles)!

 From AWEsome Art! Amazon Web Services issued an AWSome Call for Art for the purpose of showcasing original art from the Washington Metropolitan Region. My Spring Tree was selected to hang in their Virginia office, with the possibility of a purchase for their corporate collection. I am excited to have been selected....
 We had hardly hung the show in the Arlington Offices of SAIC when I got a nice email from the Venue Coordinator to say my painting, Gingko III had been sold. That's always a nice email to get. This is one of my "Leaf Impression" paintings. I start the process with a very wet sheet of watercolor paper, then apply paint to the leaves I have gathered. As I paint each one, I press it down into the wet paper. Once many leaves are on the paper, I paint over the whole sheet in a different "background" color. Then comes the hard part.... I have to let the whole thing dry overnight, without lifting the leaves to see what is happening on the paper. Once dry, I remove all the leaves and look at my image, some beautiful patterns have taken shape. Sometimes I will go back in and add more color, darken some leaves, put details on others. I apply more paint to the actual leaves and use them as stamps, pressing them into the paper and leaving behind vein lines and impressions. I have printed up sets of notecards from these paintings. They are available at Stifel & Capra, and at the gift shop at the American Horticultural Society at River Farm in Alexandria.  Dance 6 by Elisabeth Hudgins I am honored to have been selected to be the Featured Artist for the month of August by the Arlington Artists Alliance! My artwork, Dance 6, will be posted prominently on the Arlington Artists Alliance website, which is doubly cool because the Alliance just unveiled a new and improved website. You can check it out here. For any Arlington Artists out there, this is a great local organization... we have lots of new and fun opportunities. I am really excited to be the newly elected president.
 Corn Bouquet by Elisabeth Hudgins This watercolor painting, "Corn Bouquet" is a commissioned piece I did last winter. It has an interesting story... A patron of mine wanted to give his wife an anniversary gift that reminded her of a piece of "family lore". When they first started dating, he was asked to her home to have dinner with her family to Meet The Parents. He, thoughtfully, brought along some..........Corn. Ever since, her family has teased him about how romantic he was to bring her a Bouquet of Corn. Well, I say he more than made up for it, 25 years later, when he commissioned a painting for his bride of the famous Corn Bouquet. Extra husband points!!
 My paintings are on sale at Stifel & Capra! This is the once a year Anniversary Sale, and many of the artists celebrate by putting some of their paintings on sale (not normally something artists do!). I have a selection of my framed watercolor paintings on display, all marked down. This watercolor, titled "Purple and Gold" is included in the sale.

Elan featured my "Common Threads" series of paintings, even publishing one on their Table of Contents. Below is the rest of the article. 
 My "Exes" (actually these are my husband's Grandmother's Exes) was juried into the June Art League Show, "Con(text): Art With A Message. The Juror was John James Anderson. This is one of my "Common Threads" series, which came about when my husband and I were cleaning out an old family house and found a cache of old photographs and letters. In the background of this piece are some of the love letters written to my husband's Grandmother, Lucy. I think she must have broken some hearts!
I had a great time at Stifel & Capra last night on FIRSTfriday, and I hope my many friends and colleagues who stopped by did, too. I can't believe my friends Theresa and Bob made lemonade out of the lemons that were pouring down from the sky in the form of raindrops, and managed to fit everyone inside... The awesome Pluckerland Blues Band, the folks from the delicious new restaurant, Little City Gourmet, and Me! My friend, Jim George from Examiner.com was there with his lovely artist wife, Maureen. Jim wrote a really nice follow up article on FIRSTfirday, which you can find here. Now I am getting geared up for the mixed media classes I am offering at Stifel & Capra...

Elisabeth HudginsI have been an artist all of my life. I can't help it. Drew on the walls in kindergarten, painted pictures in high school, went to Art School, worked as an art director, started painting again. And am loving it. Archives
