Big Weekend Ahead.... the Artful Weekend at Fort CF Smith Park, in Arlington County, VA. This is a highly successful weekend-long art show that I conceived and have planned for 10 years, involving over 40 artists! It is always a whole lot of fun, with great artists and wonderful patrons in a dream-like setting (for artists, anyway) of an early 1900's converted farmhouse, that is also a Civil War fort site. The Hendry House, on the property, is open to the public and full of art for the weekend. I can't wait to see what all the artists bring! We will have it all hung and ready for viewing by the opening tomorrow night from 6-8pm. Hope everyone will come on out to Ft. Smith.

Tomorrow is the Holiday Art and Gift Market at Stifel & Capra, 260 W. Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046. Elisabeth Hudgins Art will be there from 10am-3pm with about a dozen other vendors offering: art, jewelry, fused glass, vintage treasures and Apple Pie (from Bob Stifel) ! Yum. Stop on by and see some of the pieces from my "sketchbook" series. I have taken old books and other ephemera, (like the postcard in this piece) and used it for my sketchbook. A great way to recycle.... If you can't make it to the Market tomorrow, my studio upstairs at Stifel & Capra always has a nice assortment of my artwork and other fun items, and is open Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 12noon-5pm. I was asked to be the judge for a local elementary school's PTA Reflections Contest. Reflections is a nationwide program which encourages students to explore the arts and express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. It has been in existence for over 40 years. Every year there is a different theme, which children propose. This year's theme was "The Magic of a Moment" . Each student had to submit an artist statement to go along with their entry. I was asked to judge the Kindergarten-2nd Grade Division. I LOVED the creativity and thoughtful expression that went into the artwork. It was really wonderful to look at the world, for a moment, through a child's eye. It was interesting to be the juror. My decision was not based on the visual appeal of the artwork alone. I had to judge on " how well the student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the theme". This was a really wonderful opportunity.

Elisabeth HudginsI have been an artist all of my life. I can't help it. Drew on the walls in kindergarten, painted pictures in high school, went to Art School, worked as an art director, started painting again. And am loving it. Archives
