Dance 6 by Elisabeth Hudgins
I am honored to have been selected to be the Featured Artist for the month of August by the Arlington Artists Alliance! My artwork, Dance 6, will be posted prominently on the Arlington Artists Alliance website, which is doubly cool because the Alliance just unveiled a new and improved website. You can check it out here. For any Arlington Artists out there, this is a great local organization... we have lots of new and fun opportunities. I am really excited to be the newly elected president. Spring Flowers continue to be big sellers, as "Double Daylily" sold at the Arlington Artists Alliance show over the weekend. I had a chance to chat with the new owners, who are big arts supporters (which I love!) and even though they didn't know exactly where "Double Daylily" was going to hang in their house, they loved the colors and brightness. I painted this piece, in acrylic, but painting an abstract underpainting first in orange, then adding the greens of the leaves, and wiping off and adding on more paint to build layers. Then I added more orange paint to show the structure of the flower. The daylilies are about to bloom again, so I might have to head back out to the garden and paint some more! My Lovely Little Cherry Tree just found a new home! It was my featured photo on my post about ArtFest at Ft. CF Smith.... and sure enough, that's where it sold! But there's still plenty more lovely artwork there, and the weather is beautiful, so head on down to Ft. CF Smith between now and Friday at noon. The excitement is building.... next Tuesday, July 17th is the Opening of the Northern Virginia ART Center.. Located in the Crystal City Shops @ 2100 the Arlington Artists Alliance (AAA), in partnership with the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) and Vornado/Charles E. Smith, launched this gallery in July 2012 to showcase the work of established regional artists. 39 artists will exhibit paintings, drawings, sculpture, glass work, ceramics and jewelry. Exhibits will rotate on a monthly basis to emanate energy, stimulate creativity, and encourage repeat visits. For more information please check out the website www.novaartcenter.org or call 571-483-0652.

The week-long Arlington Artists Alliance ArtFest kicks off tonight with a FREE reception at the Hendry House at Ft. CF Smith in Arlington. This is always a great week of FREE workshops and fun events. Check out all the events at: http://www.arlingtonartistsalliance.org/ The artwork is all hung and ready to be viewed.... I know, since my colleagues Linda Maldonado, Marie Baumann and I spent the morning hanging the show. There are some really beautiful pieces are really reasonable prices! Some that really caught my eye are by Elise Ritter, and Nan Morrison. The reception is tonight from 6pm to 8pm... Hope to see you there! Cat 5 is at the ArtFest! by Elisabeth Hudgins |
Elisabeth HudginsI have been an artist all of my life. I can't help it. Drew on the walls in kindergarten, painted pictures in high school, went to Art School, worked as an art director, started painting again. And am loving it. Archives
