The Arlington Artists Alliance is proud to present a week full of Art at Fort C.F. Smith. In conjunction with an on-going art show and sale in the historic Hendry House, there will be a variety of demos, workshops, and a Treasure Hunt. OPENING RECEPTION, 6-8pm. Meet the artists and vote for the "PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD" for favorite artwork. Refreshments will be served.
SATURDAY, APRIL 6
ART SHOW OPEN 11AM-5PM
WORKSHOP: Drawing Nature, 11AM-12PM. Ages 9-13. Liz Macklin and Jocelyn Hunn will show young artists how to use lines and basic shapes to draw animals, plants and April skies. We will start with line drawings in pencil and explore how to suggest movement, add texture, show effects of light and, if desired, add scientific notes and creative writing in hand drawn fonts. WORKSHOP: My Home Storybook: Bookmaking for Kids, 12-1:30PM. Ages: 7 and up. Sushmita Mazumdar will teach you how to make a house-shaped book and let the stories of home flow… what story will you put in there? Who will you put behind the windows? WORKSHOP: Beautiful Book of Fear, 2-3:30PM. Ages 18 and up. Sushmita Mazumdar will lead you to explore how writing down a scary word, decorating it, and turning it into a work of art gives you a new way of looking at it. WORKSHOP: Make Your Own Bookmark, 3:30-5PM. Ages: All. Agnes Yackshaw invites participants to make a watercolor bookmark as a souvenir of the Arlington Artists Alliance Artfest. FREE.

ART SHOW OPEN: 12NOON-5PM
WORKSHOP: Paint by Music, 12-2PM. Ages: Teens & Adults. Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. Its common elements are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. Wen LePore will demonstrate how to translate music's notes to color, how to use melody to create the story ofthe image and how to use rhythm to create brush strokes. Max: 6. ARTISTS TALK: My Father, The Artist and Me, 3-4PM. Ages: Adults. Peter Corbino will discuss his father's work and struggle as a mid 20th century figurative American artist. His story as the son of his artist father, Jon Corbino, will be told as it relates to the man Peter has only recently come to know. Max: 15. FREE, Registration required, [email protected].

ART SHOW OPEN: 11AM-3PM
WORKSHOP: Prepare for Plein Air, 11AM-12:30PM. Ages: Teens & Adults. Jean Stark says "Creating art directly from nature is like no other experience." She gives you tricks of the trade, in figuring out: how to prepare for working outside, necessary gear and other considerations. Get ready to go! and then, let's make our own art outside at Ft. ARTISTS TALK: Jean Arp: Sculptor and Poet, 2-3PM. Ages: All. Rusty Lynn presents images and poetry of Jean Arp, who was a member of the original DADA group in Zurich. Arp began as a painter, created painted wood reliefs that are funny and beautiful, and in the last half of his life created sculptures using marble and bronze. Throughout his life he also wrote poetry, and created woven tapestries with his wife, artist Sophie Taeuber. Min: 5, Max: 10. FREE, Registration required, [email protected].
WEDNESDAY APRIL 10
ART SHOW OPEN: 11AM-5PM
TREASURE HUNT FOR KIDS: Civil War Treasure Hunt, 3:30-5PM. Ages:5-12, accompanied by adult. Todd Parker invites you to search for answers to historical Civil War questions about Arlington, Fort CF Smith and Washington, DC. Clues are found on the grounds of the Fort CF Smith property. A "Treasure" will be provided to successful participants along with refreshments!

ART SHOW OPEN: 11AM-4PM
ARTIST TALK: Painting Architectural Subjects, 11AM-12:30PM. Ages:14 and up. Tony Neville will provide an illustrated talk using the examples of the masters and some of his own paintings. Tips will be provided on composition, architectural presentation, perspective and distortion arising from photographs. Min: 5, Max: 10. FREE, Registration required, email: [email protected].
